Recycling artwork is becoming a forgotten practice nowadays With the increasing number of media being produced and a decline in attention spans, it’s a shame that the reuse of artwork hasn’t increased. The art of most renowned illustrators is available for reuse. Art doesn’t age and should never be classified as a second-hand commodity. While some would argue that some art does get outdated, especially contemporary fashion and Sci-fi, it’s an undeniable fact that most of it retains its original vigour and value for years.
Extant art can help you in a variety of ways. For example, if you’re making a calendar and you’d like to adorn it with beautiful sceneries of nature ? lush green fields and picturesque waterfalls ? instead of making your own art, you could choose from the existing art of a renowned illustrator. Not only would it save you valuable time, it would also honour the artist’s work.
The licensing of reused art is minimal in comparison to new art, less than half the amount. So, if you don’t have the budget for a new commission, you always have the option to spend less on an existing piece of art of the same illustrator and enjoy more or less the same benefits. If the artwork you’re going for is more than your budget and the illustrator isn’t lowering its price you could always check out their back catalogue and find something equally good. And who knows? You might just come out with a breathtaking illustration of a world-renowned artist.
It’s worth mentioning here that if you find something of interest in an artist’s reused repository, and you buy the exclusive copyrights of a particular artwork, it will no longer be available for another client, and with that will go most of your cost savings. So buy the copyrights conscientiously to get the best deal.
